With more and more people these days owning smartphones, I figured it only logical to make this site accessible via mobile.

Try it out!

It’s not 100% finished yet but it’s getting there.

Taree Historic Motor Club & Weekend on Wheels

Unlike last year’s “Weekend on Water”, Weekend on Wheels 2016 was an absolutely beautiful day, with a cloudless sky and bright sunshine all day.

An excellent turn out, with at least 150 cars in attendance plus half a dozen or so trucks and around 20 motorcycles. There were approximately six or so cars from our own club, including Greg Lee with his 1913 Rover, Mitch and Shae Taylor with the 1925 Ford Model T, Allan Walters with his 1929 Chrysler 75 and Ray and Lyn Lapham with their 1980 Holden VC Commodore and also their Holden Monaro. Apologies there were others but I didn’t clock the names.

Allan Walters won an award for his Chrysler at the end of the day, despite stating at the beginning of the day “I don’t win awards at car shows!” — I think perhaps a fine is in order aye Allan?

Greg Lee looked very suave dressed in his best, with his grey suit and waistcoat, complete with a very regal top hat. Ray Lapham bought a bright yellow Holden Monaro and told Lyn about it afterwards… was that such a good idea Ray?

Also present was a very tidy looking Peugeot 404 – Ian Dyball, you’re not missing one are you? There was the usual display by the Taree Volunteer Rescue Squad, including a demonstration of how they extract people from wrecked cars after a crash. The police had a highway patrol car on display, and there was the usual side show alley as well as a small display of drag cars.

All in all it was a very enjoyable day – looking forward to next year.

Tea Gardens / Hawks Nest Motorfest 2016

The Tea Gardens Hawks Nest Motor Club Inc. is now ready to stage their Annual and in this year their fourteenth Motorfest Community Aid Event Day on Saturday 12 March 2016 at the Myall Sports Oval at Hawks Nest.

Various motor clubs from Newcastle, The Hunter Region, Sydney Basin, Central Coast, Taree, Tuncurry/Foster, Tamworth, Gunnedah, Nelson Bay and the Port Macquarie area are expected to attend. This wonderful and interesting day, where car enthusiasts display their treasured veteran, vintage, classic and unique vehicles and motorcycles, which are all in pristine condition, has become a popular event for the Tea Gardens Hawks Nest locality.

Vehicles are expected to start arriving from 8.30am with the official program commencing at 10am with the opening of the event by Mr Len Roberts, Deputy Mayor, Great Lakes Council.

In past years over 300 vehicles and motorcycles have attended the Motorfest Event and again this year committee organisers are already indicating that responses to Motorfest 2016 will see similar numbers of vehicles attending.

Again in 2016 we will have in attendance Sydney Sports Ground Speedway Cars and Dirt Track Bikes.

The Local Fire Brigade, Ambulance Service and the local Surf Life Saving Club will display their latest vehicles and equipment with the Police Area Command at Raymond Terrace also displaying their vehicles..

The Red Cross Ladies will be present to ensure that cups of tea, coffee and home made cakes, biscuits and scones are available and the Rural Bush Fire Brigade will cater for hungry visitors with their sausage sizzle and BBQ. The Local Surf Club will again provide and serve cold drinks. Under cover seating will also be available for those visitors who wish to rest and enjoy the day.

Entertainment will be provide by well known local band “Driftwood” who have entertained us at Motorfest in the past and who make a very positive contribution to the days event.

The Motor Club wishes to thank the generous support of the local business and sponsors and the NRMA who will again sponsor the trophies for the various Vehicle Categories Awards prizes. The winners of the major raffle prizes will be announced at 1pm and the various Vehicle Category Awards will be announced at 2pm. The Club would also like to thank the MC for the event, Mr Terry Munright, who has supported the club in this role for many years.

See you there!

90th Birthday Celebration in a Model T Ford

On Sunday, 6th December, I had the privilege of taking 90 year old Robert Grimley of Chatham, for a ride in my Ford Model T. Robert was born in 1925; the same year my Model T was built.

We went on a leisurely drive from his residence in Chatham, out around Cundletown, back through Taree, out to Andrews Reserve, and back to Taree again; where a party was organized with Robert’s family and friends at the Taree Tennis Centre on Commerce St.

His daughter Sheryl explained to me that her father is a Ford fanatic, and I was delighted to see a collection of Model T models on his mantelpiece. She also explained to me that her father had also called the undertakers to confirm if they had a Ford hearse and how he said “If you don’t have a Ford hearse, I ain’t going!”

Sheryl explains a little about her family…

“My Dad is still talking about Saturday, Thank you so much again. I wanted to fill you in on another little tid bit about Dad. Mum and Dad started Roblorn Transport back in 1973, Rob for my Dad and Lorn for my Mum Lorna. My brother Robert then ran it for quite a while then sold it to Donna and Michael Brett who were at the function on Saturday and told us that they deliver for you I suppose now it is through TNT Dad found this quite interesting also. My eldest son Troy work for them for some time and he now owns Old Bar Couriers.”

Robert also had a birthday cake with an edible picture of my Model T on top!
